Rams back in Southern California
And with the Chargers and Raiders building their own collation among the owner ranks, it’s a race right now trying to secure sufficient support to sway the NFL in one direction or another.
The first fight was triggered by Cowboys linebacker Andrew Gachkar and Rams center Demetrius Rhaney, which then led to a multi-pronged fight with a number of players, including the Cowboys’ Randy Gregory, Jeff Heath, Tyler Patmon and the Rams’ Jared Cook, Tre Mason, Tavon Austin and others.
When you take a look at this Cowboys team, it’s clear that the team is no stranger to fighting. Sims then decided that showing restraint was the wrong move, so he blindsided Gardner and sent him flying. Their team hotel here is about 25 minutes away from the Cowboys’ training camp site.
This was the case Wednesday when the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Rams brawled in their joint practice in the handsome sunny skies of Oxnard, California.
The way their long-suffering Southern California fans see it, the Rams are considering restoration, not relocation.
Says Cowboys COO Stephen Jones: “We’re going to have to continue to emphasize that stuff is not what we want“. “It’s just all part of competition, man. We’ve got to stick with one another as brothers”.
Ten days ago in St. Louis, during a practice session at Rams Park televised live by NFL Network, Rams fans were told by team security to either discard their large pro-St. “He was a full participant in our offseason program, so he’s in a different place right now than he was the last couple of years”.
“There’s no excuse for it. You can’t blame it on anybody”, Fisher said.
Other coaches involved in joint practices have noticed the fights, such as the ones between the Rams-Cowboys and Texans-Redskins, and are now thinking of ways to avoid brawls.
Bill Belichick, Payton’s counterpart during their joint practices, feels the two teams can practice against one another without breaking into a melee. Although they went through long stretches of poor play, they made generations of fans with their distinctive uniforms, star players and tradition. “These things don’t happen overnight but we’ll continue to work at them”. And I’m sure that when we’re in Oxnard, they’ll be there as well. “It was competitive. We got to play a lot of people”. “The Rams are the team that most of us as children grew up with”.
As for the rare opportunity to work against another team in practice, that doesn’t matter much to coach Jason Garrett when it comes to minor injuries.
And Bryant can probably rest easy considering his spot on the Cowboys and near the top of the list of best wide receivers in the NFL is all-but-assured, while Claiborne will likely struggle just to carve out a spot, let a lone a role, on the Rams 53-man roster.
