Slow but steady progress corraling the Rock Creek wildfire

Eight helicopters and five planes fighting the fires near Oliver were grounded for more than three hours Sunday due to a drone flying in the area. It has destroyed 26 houses and damaged 50 others. Scores of homes remain threatened.

A 70-year-old woman was killed when she fell while preparing to flee from the wildfire, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Eight Type 1 or Type 2 incident management teams have been assigned to several complexes covering about 30 large fires in the area, Slown said.
Fire crews have made good progress on the only two fires of outcome burning on the Bitterroot National Forest. “That means no fires at all, not even in campgrounds”.
Montebello authorities say a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson.
The Springs Fire in Arizona’s Kaibab National Forest reached 6,287 acres Monday, traveling into Wild Horse Canyon and drawing nearer to perimeter boundaries established by fire managers for the benefit of the forest’s ecosystem. It is 10 per cent contained. It was 80 per cent contained Monday. The fire has forced closure of many backcountry trails in both Glacier and Waterton national parks.
“Nationally and regionally there’s more demand for trained and qualified fire crews and for experienced fire line leaders and supervisors than we’re now able to fill”, Eagle said.
