West Ham’s Aditi Chauhan becomes India’s first woman to play in England
The 22-year-old Delhi-born goalkeeper endured a baptism of fire in a 5-0 defeat away to Coventry United in West Ham’s Women’s Premier League Southern Division opener, having signed for The Hammers late in pre-season.
The West Ham Ladies FC’s official youtube channel promotes their players and highlights their emotions. They were formed in 1991 and play at Hornchurch Stadium, Upminster the home of Hornchurch FC.
West Ham’s senior men’s team is a regular at England’s top-flight football, the English Premier League. Recently, the Indian men team’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, a 23-year-old, played for Stabaek FC in Norway.
Aditi Chauhan is a female footballer who represented India in U-19 squad at the AFC Qualifiers in Malaysia.
Aditi made her debut on August 16, 2015.
She completed her graduation from DU and debuted for the under-19 Indian women’s football team. We need to build ourselves back, get together and move forward. Tanvie Hans – not an India global – is also playing for Fulham in the fourth tier but is yet to make the cut in the first XI.
Aditi represented India at the women’s football competition at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. The Indian goalkeeper, who is now pursuing Master of Science degree in sports management from Loughborough University, UK, also represents the university team there. The Delhi girl believes in training hard and says that she would train six days a week and the intensity of her training would increase before a national camp. “The quality of Football is competitive here and I hope it helps me evolve as a Player”, she said.
Aditi is only the second Indian goalkeeper to play professionally in Europe. Here, there is not much frenzy but the standard of football is very high.
