Rumor: ‘Prometheus 2’ is Delaying ‘Alien 5’
Obviously the Alien brand demands something erring closer to the film-maker’s better work, so extra time for him to develop the script and justify the sequel are probably in everybody’s best interest. Some have decided that the project is already quietly disappearing, but Michael Biehn and a source in Fox’s orbit have now both come out to insist it’s still very much a priority. But there is another issue holding it up: Ridley Scott wants it to happen after Prometheus 2.
Blomkamp is reported to be working on the script, fleshing things out from the original outline. The cameras will reportedly roll on Prometheus 2 in early 2016, but Scott is insisting his movie be complete before Blomkamp’s gets properly underway.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Fox is still keen on Blomkamp’s Alien 5, and that Scott is still on board as producer. However, development may take a long time until Prometheus 2 finishes, with the release possibly not happening until 2018. Alien 5 should start shooting in 2017 for a 2018 release.
Technically Prometheus 2 and Alien 5 exist under the same mythological banner, but they’ll be disparate stories.
Those of us who search for hidden connections in everything have to wonder if Prometheus 2 will somehow shake up the Alien series in a big way. If a new report is to be believed, Blomkamp’s film is being put on the back burner until Scott can make Prometheus 2 a reality.
Alien 5 is said to follow in line with the spirit of Aliens, without completely ignoring the events in the later sequels.
Despite all the buzz and involvement from people like Biehn and Weaver, Blomkamp’s Alien remains painfully lacking in the details department.
20th Century Fox has a pair of new movies on the way, set within the walls of the Alien franchise.
