Hipster Whale’s ‘Pac-Man 256’ Just Released, Go Get It
Pac-Man automatically moves through an endless maze in Pac-Man 256.
This glitch saw random text characters appearing on the screen and messing up the maze Pac-Man runs around in, effectively making the game unplayable.
Pac-Man 256 is described as “endless maze chase” based on the infamous “256 Glitch”. This is Pac-Man like you’ve never experienced it before with loads of powerups available that you won’t see in the original game, along with some revamped visuals that have only been slightly touched up for modern day devices. The end result is a free-to-play title that hopes placing players on time-outs will nudge them into reaching for their wallets for more credits.
Bandai Namco’s collaboration with Crossy Road developer Hipster Whale can now be downloaded at no cost.
VentureBeat’s explanation continues: “One credit regenerates automatically every ten minutes, and you can buy more with real money (including an “unlimited credits” option)”. You could still play, but it was pretty hard since the corrupted characters could block your path and do all sorts of other weird things.
None of the in-app purchases are too bad, and you never really feel like they’re shoving anything down your throat. The Android version of the app is playable on Android TV, and has controller support.
Pac-Man 256 is faithful to the original in that players assume the familiar role, munching dots, fruit and ghosts. As with Crossy Road, Pac-Man 256 is played in an isometric perspective.
