Silent Circle’s Blackphone 2 smartphone coming in September
Smartphone users who are concerned about privacy and security may want to wait until September to buy a new smartphone. Now, the second iteration, the Blackphone 2, is nearing release and has just been opened up for pre-orders. Still, the website does not mention the price for this product, so interested customers will have to get in touch with the sales department before placing an order.
The company says that the Android-based Silent OS it uses, combined with its own curated apps, ensures encrypted and private communications. To protect its users, Silent Circle doesn’t have access to the encryption keys for communications made on its network, similar to how Apple protects data stored on its users’ iPhones.
The new phone promises a high definition 5.5 inch and 1080p display.
The phone comes with micro SD card support and quick charge support and it offers many security features.
Designed for individuals and corporations alike, the first Blackphone was originally presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona back in 2014 before going on sale for US$629 (RM2,580), which is right up there with the unlocked cost of most flagship smartphones.
Silent Circle launched the first Blackphone in June a year ago. September is the month confirmed for the launch of the Blackphone 2 smartphone.
The company is still working on a tablet version, to be known at the Blackphone+, but has so far shared little about the device.
If security and privacy is a major thing for you, whether it’s for work reasons or for personal reasons (hey, no judgement here), then you’re probably familiar with Silent Circle and its line of apps like Silent Text and Silent Phone.
