Louis Police Officers Shoot, Kill Suspect
St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told local journalists that police were searching the residence when two suspects fled and one pointed a weapon at police. Louis Police Department said officers ordered both armed men to drop their weapons. Police have not released any details about the suspect other than he is in his mid-to-late teens.
The shooting that left a black suspect dead drew protests, with numerous roughly 150 people who gathered at the scene hurling obscene gestures and expletives at investigators and questioning the police use of deadly force.
Another neighborhood resident, Fred Price, skeptical about Dotson’s account that the suspect pointed a gun at officers before being mortally wounded. One officer shot three times, the other once, he said.
Orange barricades were put up around a body the front yard of the multi-family building where the shooting occurred.
Reports said officers shot the person at the intersection of Walton Avenue and Page Boulevard in the city’s Fountain Park neighbourhood. The officer who fired has reportedly been placed on administrative leave.
The shooting came as protesters marked the killing of Kajieme Powell, 25, who was shit by officers in August 2014.
But shortly after the crowd gathered, many at the scene described a relatively calm atmosphere. Several onlookers surrounded individual officers, yelling at them.
“They always say that”, Phillips said.
“The sign says it all”, Robinson said. “That’s why people are armed down here”, said Cahsem Liner, 37. The two officers then fired a total of four gunshots towards the suspect, according to police. About 12:50 p.m., police put a woman into handcuffs and were removing her from the scene.
