Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over in Sparta
Guests will have the opportunity to test the fatal vision goggles which simulate alcohol impairment, and impaired driving facts will be displayed on the scoreboard during the game. Beginning August 21 and running through September 7, local and state enforcement officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.
Law enforcement officers from Sparta Township will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the 2015 Labor Day Statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. During the enforcement period, there will be a special emphasis on impaired-driving enforcement. During last year’s Labor Day travel weekend, Georgia saw 15 traffic deaths and a further 1,218 injuries result from 3,706 crashes.
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is a national campaign designed to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters, banners and mobile video display signs”, the news release said. Throughout the country in 2013, there were 10,076 people killed in drunken-driving crashes, nearly a third of all traffic fatalities.
“We hope the campaign will serve as a reminder that those who choose to drink should never get behind the wheel”, Captain Barnett said. “No warnings. No excuses”.
In every state, it is illegal to drive with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher.
First-time DUI offenders are not required to have the device installed unless there is an aggravating circumstance, such as speeding or driving drunk with a child in the vehicle.
