New York Mets Fall To Orioles, 5-4, On Walk-Off HR
Baltimore Orioles celebrate at home plate after left fielder Henry Urrutia (51) hit a walk off home run during the ninth inning against the New York Mets at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The Orioles’ third walkoff win in their last six games also snapped their nine-game losing streak against the Mets.
“This is the best moment in all my career”, said Urrutia, who has appeared in 29 games with Baltimore between 2013 and 2015. Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores answered the next inning when he led off with a home run to left off Mychal Givens. Flores gave the Mets back the lead, 4-3, in the top of the seventh with his 12th homer of the season, but Hansel Robles gave it right back.
“I chose the wrong pitch”, Torres said.
Despite allowing two singles, closer Zach Britton (4-0) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard follows through on… He allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings. “I’ve been a little bit concerned about my performances on the road”. “In Tampa I sat for 25 minutes, I lost the feel. I’m just not getting the results that I want”.
Henry Urrutia couldn’t have picked a better time for his first big league home run.
Orioles right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez had another shaky outing. Hitting a game-winning home run for a team in the middle of a playoff run is pretty special.
Syndergaard went out to warm up later and came in to the dugout about two minutes before first pitch.
Patrick Semansky/AP Daniel Murphy gets the Mets off to a quick start with a home run, but they are unable to hold any leads. For game one against the Twins the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez who has allowed 126 hits and 62 runs while striking out 97 over 126.1 innings for a 9-8 record and a 4.42 ERA.
The only inning that has proven more risky to Syndergaard than the first is the sixth. He dropped a nasty curveball in a 3-2 count to Orioles slugger Chirs Davis to strike him out swinging and coaxed a double-play ground ball out of Jonathan Schoop to get out of the inning unscathed.
New York extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a two-out, RBI single by Flores after Jimenez issued consecutive walks.
The road continues to be a problem for Noah Syndergaard, and the Mets’ bullpen has become leaky at an inopportune time.
Syndergaard then battled slugger Chris Davis in a nine-pitch at-bat and won the battle when he struck him out on an 81-mph curveball. We threw the fastball up.
After Steve Clevenger hit a run-scoring single in the bottom half, a double by Curtis Granderson and a single by Murphy put the Mets up 3-1 in the fifth.
NOTES: Mets RHP Matt Harvey might skip his scheduled start Sunday in Colorado to keep his innings and pitch count down so he can throw later into September and possibly the postseason.
