Youth Hostelling With Chris Eubank trailer: Classic Alan Partridge scene
The ad, from Lucky Generals, sees the dapper former boxer check into a “splendid” and “extraordinary” hostel, paying homage to the spoof Alan Partridge programme idea nearly two decades later. Just be little: “that way you have nowhere to fall”.
Chris Eubank is going youth hostelling.
Despite being used to somewhat finer accommodation, Eubank seemed to enjoy his experience, adding on Twitter: “My inaugural visit to a youth hostel was enlightening & delightful!”
Of course, it’s all a stunt for booking site Hostelworld, but this doesn’t make me love it any less – somewhere, somehow, a PR executive convinced their boss to blow their budget on an adaptation of an Alan Partridge quote.
The joke stems from a 1997 episode of I’m Alan Partridge in which Steve Coogan’s hapless title character frantically reels off a list of potential new TV shows, including one titled Youth Hostelling With Chris Eubank. “It was truly an unsolved mystery to me”, Eubank said in a statement.
It started as a gag on a comedy show – now, eighteen years later, it is finally happening.
Hostelworld told Metro.co.uk: The company remains tight-lipped about whether a full-blown series will follow but was happy to confirm that it would not be developing one of Partridge’s other failed concepts: Monkey Tennis‘.
