Accidental Shooting Takes Place at Oklahoma ‘Muslim-Free’ Store
An Oklahoma man accidentally shot himself Tuesday after dropping his firearm in the same gun shop being guarded by armed citizens after it received threats for declaring itself a Muslim-free business. However, the Muslim-free gun range owners took to Facebook to explain the incident and stated that the man was not a guard, but a friend at the establishment trying to help fix a broken door.
“I saw several of those gentlemen out there yesterday”, Sheriff Pearson told muskogeenow.com. One such shop in Florida made national news Monday when George Zimmerman, the man who shot unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin but was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in July 2013, announced he would raffle off prints of his painting of the Confederate flag to raise money for the store.
“Everybody is entitled to say what they feel, and the other people are entitled to tell them how they feel about their opinion”, Pearson said to a local television station. We strive for safety on our range and in our store and encourage everyone to maintain safety checks on their equipment to ensure they are properly functioning. “The only thing that I ask, if they are true patriots, that when the threats do come or the undesirables do show up, call us and allow us to handle it”, he said.
An operator of the store’s Facebook page directed reporters to a statement posted late Tuesday that called the shooting “an unfortunate accident”.
Martin drove from California to confront the owners after he heard of their sign.
“I thought I would pull over at some point and sleep, but I didn’t”. He is going to be ok and we will keep you updated on his progress. “At least I got a chance to say that”.
One of those volunteers, who claimed to be a combat veteran and would identify himself only as “Eagle One”, disputed the sheriff’s characterization of the volunteers.
“This is a very unsafe situation”, said Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic civil rights group, has filed a complaint with the US Department of Justice asking for a federal investigation.
