St. Louis County police say surveillance video shows an 18-year-old suspect critically wounded Sunday night by officers was armed with a handgun.
Harris’ father has denied that his son had a gun.
His aunt, Karen Harris, said the teen attended the protests because he was friends with Brown.
Police had been watching Harris during the protest out of concern that he was armed, he said.
Events marking the anniversary of Brown’s death had been peaceful until Sunday night, when the gunfire rang out and Tyrone Harris Jr. was shot. He was shooting back at them and all that…. Harris was struck multiple times and is hospitalized in critical condition.
“I think they took command out of the hands of the new chief of Ferguson pretty fast”, Charles Mayo, leader of a moderate protest group that has sought to improve relations between protesters and police, said Tuesday. “Participants are now unlawfully assembled”, the department tweeted.
Before Sunday’s incident, residents had started to point to positive changes within the community and better police conduct.

However, others seethed as word spread that police had arrested a 12-year-old girl. The National Association of Black Journalists called the charges “a direct assault on the free exercise of the First Amendment”.
“All I saw was shots were fired”.
On their website, the Oath Keepers are described as a group focused on fulfilling “the oath all military and police take to ‘defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.'” The site notes that the organization is composed of members who have, or have previously had, some sort of connection to law enforcement or the military.
Steve Stenger, the St. Louis county executive, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the state of emergency giving county police control over policing in Ferguson could be lifted Wednesday.
