Ryan Blaney captures win in truck race at BMS
Next, on Wednesday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, he had another disappointing setback when he was penalized for jumping the restart of the Camping World Truck Series race while leading the event and fell off the lead lap.
The circuit nicknamed “Thunder Valley” beckons for the second time this season, with the stakes much higher this time around. During the caution for the incident, rain hit the track, resulting in a red flag period of almost 46 minutes.
“We had a chance, and that’s all you can ask for is a chance”, Blaney said.
We’re backing him to make it a Bristol double, but only by the narrowest of margins as he is faced with an opponent that could outshine him if opportunities emerge during at key moments during the race.
“Thanks to all the fans for sticking around”.
“It feels really good”, said Blaney in victory lane.
Blaney said he may have gone “a tiny early” on the restart where he was black-flagged but thought the penalty didn’t fit the crime. “Obviously the inside isn’t the preferred line on the restart but we got a good jump and were able to pull away”. The laps led under the caution and after the race restarted were the first laps led by Crafton at Bristol in 13 races at the track. He’s driving for Team Penske in Friday night’s Xfinity Series race and for the Wood Brothers in Saturday night’s Sprint Cup Series race.
Kyle Busch went on a tear of winning four of five races, becoming the major story of July, and right behind him, Matt Kenseth has won two of the last three. Blaney made his way into the top- three in the final 20 laps of the race and was up to second by the final yellow, the fifth of the race, with four laps remaining in the scheduled 200-lap distance. “I just got into one and saw an opening, and I took it….” “I was committed to the top and was going as hard as I could”. It’s a green-white-checker restart.
John Hunter Nemechek was third, followed by Daniel Hemric, Brandon Jones and Erik Jones. He is now third in the standings, 9 points out of first place.
