Woman, 77, dies after falling on a bus in west London
Officers were called at around 1.35pm on Tuesday (August 18) to reports of an unconscious woman on a bus, in Chiswick High Road near the junction with Duke Road.
Witnesses said the 77-year-old fell, bashing her head, after standing up to get off the bus in west London.
Transport for London figures released this week showed more than 400 people needed hospital treatment following incidents involving buses between April and June – up from 293 in the same period previous year.
She was taken to hospital suffering from a head injury, and died shortly before 5pm yesterday.
A Met spokesperson said: “At this early stage it is believed the woman fell and was injured while she was travelling on the bus”.
An air ambulance was called and landed on Turnham Green with the bus being moved along the High Road to be closer to move the victim.
Chiswick High Road was closed for much of the day between the junction with Acton Lane and Duke Road.
The bus driver is assisting police with inquiries and no arrests have been made.
The force has launched a witness appeal amid an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
