CCEA Chief Executive congratulates local GCSE students
Oathall Community College pupils have beaten last year’s GCSE results in many subjects.
The Government continues to put increasing emphasis on attainment in English and maths and the school has responded with a record 77% of students achieving a C or better in maths.
Last year 40 per cent of students achieved the top grades.
“Three pupils gained a clean sweep of A* grades in 11 subjects, William Backhouse, Caitlin Brickley, and Tess Hovil”.
Almost 70 per cent of students experienced what it is like to gain an A or A* with 34 per cent of the cohort gaining three or more A*s or As.
Head teacher Brett Miners said: “These results represent considerable effort by the students, supported all the way through by their teachers”.
West Sussex County Council said that, of the county’s 37 secondary schools, well over half improved their results compared to past year.
Khadijat Lawal, who is also celebrating her 16th birthday today, achieved eight A* to C grades, including A grades in additional science, English literature, French and history. “We knew we’d worked hard but it was still a real relief”.
One hundred per cent of students achieved an A*-C grade in French, Physics, Chemistry and Music, with more than 90 per cent achieving an A*-C grade in Biology, Food Technology and Media Studies.
“Good luck and best wishes for the future as you progress on to the next stage of your education or training”. With both pupil premium funding and the hard work and dedication of staff and students, this has led to the gaps in English being closed and a narrowing of the gap in maths. “There have also been many outstanding achievements by students of all abilities and significant improvements made by individual schools”.
