Five things to know about new Patriots TE Asante Cleveland
Devey started four games at guard for the Patriots last season, earning bad grades across the board from Pro Football Focus. According to multiple reports, the Patriots are sending offensive lineman Jordan Devey to San Francisco in return. So the 49ers had depth to spare, and if Devey makes their roster, they will have essentially traded a player who likely wasn’t going to be part of their plans for one that could be.
The 49ers are trying to find a good combination at right guard and center.
The SF 49ers have eight tight ends and are practicing in team’s training camp. He was promoted to the active roster and debuted on September 21, but was targeted just one time in six games played last season.
A 27-year-old native of American Fork, UT, Devey played two seasons at Snow College (Ephraim, UT) before transferring to the University of Memphis.

At the conclusion of the 2014 preseason, San Francisco released Cleveland, and signed him to their practice squad a day later. Behind No. 1 tight end Vernon Davis, the 49ers are looking for reps out of Vance McDonald, Derek Carrier, Garrett Celek, Xavier Grimble and rookies Blake Bell and Busta Anderson. Another team potentially in the tight end market is the Redskins, who lost Logan Paulsen and Niles Paul to season-ending injuries last week. Both players were placed on injured reserve on Monday.
