Philip Rivers talks contract extension

A first-round draft pick out of North Carolina State in 2004, Rivers said Monday he is relieved to know he will be able to retire as a member of the Chargers. There was also the question of weapons and what Phillip Rivers needs to be successful, the Chargers now have Stevie Johnson a deep threat whom is currently working with the best quarterback of his career.

In 2018, Rivers has a $5 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year, along with a $10 million salary.

“I’m happy for him”, Floyd said. “My lack of excitement was more about leaving this community, not a disdain for Los Angeles“.

His third touchdown of the 2015 season will make him the franchise leader.

“It was never contentious”, said Rivers of the process.

So barring a retirement, for all intents and purposes, he will remain a Charger, but not necessarily in San Diego. “It came to where it was just right”. “In returning that commitment, I always have and will continue to give that commitment every week”. But the Philip Rivers situation felt different. I can honestly say that.

But how do you think Los Angeles feels on the flip side?

Philip is not an extravagant man. How did he celebrate the new contract?

Black olives and jalapenos? As a bit of a football historian, that’s something that has always appealed to him. “To spend my whole career in one place is very special”.

It’s loyalty, on Rivers’ end for sure, a rare form of monogamy in this big-moneyed sports era that rewards talent willing to enter the open market and play around. Rivers said he has received no indication from management about what the plan going forward might be. “But (you can know) that you’re going to be a Charger”.

Wherever the Chargers land, one thing is certain: “I’m going to be a Charger, wherever we are”, Rivers said. That’s the only expectation I really have and can have at this point.
