Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson charged with drink driving after alleged hit
It is said the former Manchester United midfielder then drove away before pulling into a petrol station where he allegedly slammed into a set of pumps before coming to a stop.
It was at that point that Gibson stopped and was confronted by police, where he is alleged to have failed a breath test.
The cyclist is understood to have sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The Sun also claims that Gibson was driving a £125,000 Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo, with the incident reportedly happened at 9.45 am on Sunday.
Gibson was detained by police after the incident occurred in Altrincham, Cheshire on Sunday night and is accused of driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.
His luxury carbon fibre motor suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Police were called after receiving reports that a auto had collided with a cyclist, failed to stop and then pulled into a nearby petrol station before crashing into a fuel pump.
The footballer was arrested by police and taken to custody.
Derry born Gibson started his career at midfield for Man Utd before joining Everton in 2012 for a fee of about £1m.
The 27-year-old has been bailed and is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates’ court on September 1.
An Everton FC spokesman declined to comment.
