Antonio Cromartie: Bowles not anxious by Cromartie’s struggles
Cromartie apparently isn’t going all out for whatever it is that training camp has become under the 2011 labor deal, which reduced the number and intensity of preseason practices.
It’s not necessarily a cop-out by Cromartie, though.
“I start slow”, Cromartie later added. If I get beat working on something else, I just get beat. “We had a couple of good days of practice coming into it. Communication is being developed”. If not, teams will be targeting Cromartie all season long on the opposite side from Darrelle Revis. Cromartie had a bounce back season under Todd Bowles out in Arizona past year. There were concerns by the Jets about a lingering hip issue in 2013, which was a factor in New York not bringing him back. I’m not really anxious about anything that’s going on right now. “I’m looking forward to when the lights turn on and you go play football”.
One of the big name signing to the defensive secondary of the New York Jets was NFL veteran and ex-Jet Antonio Cromartie.
“No, I don’t”, Bowles said.
“I think he has some technical errors here and there”, Bowles said. He’s made some good plays and he’s given up some plays. We just got to get better week by week. “He’ll be fine”.
Bowles disagreed with the idea that Cromartie has not performed well in camp. “Every single day I pick out specific things I have to work on with my technique and go from there”.
“It’s practice”, Cromartie said Wednesday. “There’s a lot of confusion as far as hesitation-wise going in early on”. Ronald Talley got the start for Wilkerson last week against the Lions, but he suffered a groin injury and missed practice yesterday.
But Bowles acknowledges that he may have to play Richardson more on Friday.
Wilkerson has now been out of action for over two weeks with a hamstring injury, and he won’t be playing Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons. WR Chris Owusu (concussion) and LB Erin Henderson (MCL sprain) will also sit out…. That will not be the case this week for him or anyone sitting out, including Geno Smith (broken jaw). Sure, these guys are top level talents in their own rights, but you’d surely like to see one of your star corners do a bit better in the one-on-one battles. “As he gets comfortable with the system he will get faster and faster and that’s what we want to see”. “Everybody is in the way.”… Right guard James Carpenter had to come out of practice on Wednesday after tweaking his ankle.
