IAG seals deal for Aer Lingus
By 13.00 on August. 18 IAG had received valid acceptances of the offer for 95.77% of the existing issued share capital of Aer Lingus.
IAG, which also owns Spain’s Iberia, confirmed on Tuesday its offer had been accepted by Irish carrier Ryanair, which had owned 29.8 per cent of the former Irish flag-carrier.
British Airways parent IAG officially welcomed Aer Lingus into the group today following the completion of the deal to buy the Irish airline.
Laura Fitzsimons, one of the Aer Lingus staff members who took part in the filming of the video, said he was delighted to be involved.
Remaining shareholders have until Sept 1 to accept IAG’s takeover, which is now unconditional.
The news spells the end of a seven-month-long campaign marked by protracted negotiations between IAG and the Irish government, Aer Lingus’ second-biggest shareholder after Ryanair.
“We d like to welcome Aer Lingus into IAG”, said the group s chief executive Willie Walsh.
Aer Lingus will apply for cancellation of its share listings and trading of Aer Lingus shares on the Irish Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange, expected to become effective on September 17.
