Explosion rocks New York City high school
“It is not under control; it is an ongoing scene”, an FDNY spokesman said, adding the department had deployed 31 units and 138 people to the John F. Kennedy High School, located at 99 Terrace View Ave.
An explosion at John F. Kennedy High School in New York City injured three people, one critically, emergency officials said Thursday.
Marble Hill is a small neighborhood geographically part of the Bronx but legally part of Manhattan.
At least three floors of the building were heavily damaged, officials told CBS2.
One victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in serious condition with burns. The Department of Education considers the school to be in the Bronx. The cause of the explosion is uncertain. Three persons were hospitalized, two seriously, but none with life threatening injuries. The first day of the new school year is September 9.
Around 1,300 students in 9th through 12th grades attend the public school, according to the city’s schools website.
