Baby removed uninjured from Niagara Falls hotel safe
The Niagara Regional Police is investigating a matter involving an infant being found locked in a safe at a hotel in Niagara Falls.
Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday the staff at the Howard Johnson Hotel by the Falls received a frantic call from a couple staying in one of their rooms requesting help after their baby became locked in the room safe. A maintenance worker freed the crying infant.
A short time later, people identifying themselves as the child’s family took the baby and left.
There is no information about why the baby was locked in the safe.
Detective Amanda Sanders, of the agency’s child abuse unit, told CBC News police would like to talk to the family to make sure their baby is in good condition after the ordeal.
“We’d like to believe it was an accident at this time, but again we haven’t been able to speak to (the family) so we can’t confirm that”, said Kraushar. The guests have a 2015 grey Ford passenger van with New Jersey licence plate B31EUB.
The hotel’s manager, Kevin Liddle, citing the ongoing police investigation, declined to comment Wednesday morning.
He also said it was unclear whether there were other children in the room.
