Honda BR-V spied without any camouflage
Billed as a new-generation “crossover utility vehicle”, it clubs SUV looks, handling and utility with the spaciousness of an MPV. Honda said the BR-V’s transmission options will include a new 6-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Petrol engine will be in the form of 1.5L iVTEC which delivers 118 PS at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm torque at 4600 rpm. However, in India, the carmaker may also offer the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit that it uses for its diesel cars here.
Considering its close association with the Mobilio, it features a lot of styling cues from the MPV albeit adapted to suit the compact SUV. This engine would address the customers wanting more power from the BR-V when all seven seats are occupied.
As far as the car’s exterior is concerned, the only picture released by the Japanese brand suggests a high ground clearance complemented by roof rails, LED connected taillight design and 16-inch aluminum wheels.
First leaked photos of the Honda BR-V compact SUV from the 2015 Indonesia Motor Show. Honda says it offers a “class-leading spacious and comfortable cabin with additional knee room and head room”, with equipment including Multi-Information Display, as well as rear air conditioning between the first and second row seats.
In Indonesia, the BR-V will be equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and a hill-start assist system.
In India, the new Honda BR-V will directly compete with the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster and the recently-launched Hyundai Creta.
