Caitlyn Jenner Praises Artist for Turning Hate Tweets & Death Threats into
The 65-year-old former Olympian & LBGT activist stumbled on the portrait of her Vanity Truthful cover, which he created using all of the hate tweets & death threats she received.
“It was awful having to research and write the tweets onto the canvas, added Collins of his Jenner portrait, which has already been shared on social media by hundreds of people”. She tweeted on Wednesday night, “Turning hate into love is so handsome and powerful – great job by this artist”.
Coming out as trans, however, also resulted in the star receiving a torrent of transphobic abuse, particularly through social media site Twitter. Not to mention the vibrate function on my phone is well and truly dead!
“I have always had a connection with people on the outside”, Conor said.
For more of Collins’s work, visit his website. “I think “inspiration” gives the idea of energy and motivation”, he said.
He hopes his painting will represent the difficulties trans people face in every day life, and that people looking at it in the future will be able to see how far society has progressed in dealing with LGBT issues.
Conor initially came across the hateful responses after Caitlyn first revealed her true self.
He tells The Telegraph, “I admire what Caitlyn has done and how she has used her position and privilege to make a difference”. So naturally like anyone curious I went on her Twitter to see more, and was horrified by some of the comments.
‘Caitlyn’s making a difference to the trans community, however, I didn’t want to hide the darkness and persecution they face in my art piece.
Comments included such things as “Hope you die you perv, ‘ ‘Jenner needs to die” and ‘Somebody needs to kill off Caitlyn’. “It was something much sadder… that drove me”, he told them.
