Militant attack in Sopore, two dead Aug 18, 5:13 pm
A police constable was killed and another injured when suspected militants attacked policemen who were guarding a Sufi shrine at North Kashmir’s Tujjar village.
The police post was set up to guard the shrine and mosque in area.
Constable Fayaz Ahmad of IRP 13BN and another handicapped person Ab Rahim Lone were injured in the attack. After attacking the policeman, the militants ran away with his rifle. Both were rushed to hospital immediately, but died on they way. “Pakistani troops fittingly responding to Indian firing”. The cross-border exchange of fire continued Tuesday in the southern Poonch sector of the region, said India’s defense ministry spokesman Manish Mehta. The Pakistan Army also violated the ceasefire on Monday by firing on the LoC in Balakot sector of Poonch district.
The security forces have launched a search operation to nab the terrorists who are believed to be hiding in some nearby area, said an official. The NIA said it has declared the reward of Rs 5 lakh each for Zarghan alias Mohammed Bhai aged about 38-40 years and Abu Okasha aged about 17-18 years.
This is the second attack near the place of worship in the Kashmir valley during the last one week.
