Mauricio Pochettino quiet on Saido Berahino interest
The West Brom forward would be a fantastic addition to a Spurs squad still light in attack, and fans will be hoping for more than just the one arrival in the next two weeks.
“I am not going to speak about our private business”, the Argentinian coach said when asked directly about interest in Berahino.
Harry Kane scored 31 goals for Spurs last season but, with Emmanuel Adebayor out of favour and Roberto Soldado sold, Pochettino’s options are limited.
Lamela and Eriksen, though, are both in Pochettino’s plans and he was bullish at his press conference on Thursday afternoon about the future of the pair.
“The player (Eriksen) is happy and comfortable here…” He has a contract and we keep the best players for the present and the future to be a good squad in the next few years to fight fot the top four and try to win the Premier League one day. “It is obvious we need to add some more [players] in our offensive positions”, he said. “We identify our targets and the chairman (Daniel Levy) is working very hard to bring new players in this position, but I am happy with my squad”, said the Spurs boss, in quotes published by the Irish Independent. But Pochettino is not concerned as there is still time to make moves before the window closes.
“Always we talk about 10 games, after 10 games you need to be anxious or happy maybe”, he said.
But he added he needed the team to tighten up defensively. I know we are living in an age where no club can say “never” about the possibility of selling a player. “It wasn’t our problem to score, it was conceding goals, and we need to improve that this season”.
