Newer version of Google Glass to be an “Enterprise Edition”
The model name for the device is “GG1” which could obviously stand for Google Glass.
While that’s not exactly confirmation, but there are plenty of other clues beyond the “GG” in the name. After that, we heard quotes from Italian eyewear maker Luxxotica suggesting that Google’s follow-up to Glass would be coming soon, and Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, who pretty much said that rumors of the device’s death have been greatly exaggerated.
While the public is still mulling over whether or not we even want to see another version of Google Glass, it looks like Google is ready to give it another go. As Glass had been moved under the leadership of Nest chief Tony Fadell, and the explorer program canceled, some have wondered what Google’s wearable’s ultimate fate might have outside of the business sector. Could this be it? Is there still a place for them in world increasingly influenced by wearables?
An FCC filing went live yesterday and it seems like Google has a new product under construction.
Now, it appears that Google is dipping its toe in the water once more with the Top Secret product codenamed GG1. The user interface and the white lettering on top of the black background just like the Glass UI, further confirms suspicions that the mysterious device may be a new Google Glass device.
The mystery device was not categorised as are most devices going via the FCC, but simply labelled as a Bluetooth device with support for 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
Google GG1 will also feature a rechargeable, but non-removable batteries and comes bundled with an AC charger and USB cable (for synching purposes). Google will instead use an e-label, buried somewhere in said device’s settings menu, that you have to scroll left and right in some fashion to access. There’s the “GG1” portion of the FCC ID, the rechargeable battery, and the whole support for data transfer from a PC.
