Impact Team releases another dump of Ashley Madison data
The Ashley Madison hackers first exposed data revealing user names, emails, physical addresses, credit card numbers and more.
The hackers who took credit for the break-in had accused the website’s owners of deceit and incompetence, and said the company refused to bow to their demands to close the site.
Lawmakers overseas have denied signing up for the site after email addresses linked to them appeared on the list.
The file contained a message that appeared to be directed at the chief executive of Ashley Madison parent Avid Life Media, Noel Biderman, who at one point cast doubt on the credibility of the first data leak. For example, Hansen found more than a dozen using the name Barack Obama, all with different email addresses. “Furthermore, we will continue to put forth substantial efforts into removing any information unlawfully released to the public, as well as continuing to operate our business”, Avid Life Media said in a statement Tuesday.
Just days ago, the hacking group responsible for breaking into and stealing a wealth of data from extramarital affair dating site Ashley Madison made good on its promise to publish some of the information online for all to see.
Eltis said the hack demonstrates that employers across the country need to better train workers on how to ensure companies aren’t embarrassed – or worse, blackmailed – when this kind of data breach occurs.
Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur’s office says “information and technology officials are looking into whether any misuse has occurred”. Those who violate it may face disciplinary action that could include dismissal.
The data breach affecting customers of the Ashley Madison website may be salacious, embarrassing or even ruinous for those involved. Their lead plaintiff is an Ottawa man who joined after his wife of 30 years died. Simply having an address connected to Ashley Madison is likely not enough to cause problems for a service member.
The U.S. Postal Service and its internal watchdog also plan to review whether or not some of the agency’s employees may have violated federal policies by using their government email on the infidelity website.
Few actually paid for their services with their government email accounts.
The AP traced their government Internet connections.
Most came from webmail providers, though there are at least three from Vatican.com, an analysis of the full cache by Robert Hansen, vice president of WhiteHat Labs at the computer security company WhiteHat Security, found.
