Hamiltonians registered with Ashley Madison

A hackers group called Impact Team on Tuesday released a trove of data online after breaking into the servers of the Canada-based AshleyMadison last month.

Millions of people have been exposed following the recent data dump of stolen Ashley Madison accounts, though there is something a bit frightening to consider: the possibility of people committing suicide, or being injured or killed.

Avid Life Media said that the company is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Toronto Police Services, along with independent security experts, to investigate the hacker or hackers.

The data leak already appeared to lead to embarrassing and potentially calamitous consequences. Pontrelli says if you know you’ve used the website, the best thing you can do is come clean.

The previously released information landed San Antonio among the top 25 cities with the most Ashley Madison accounts.

Employee emails with the South Carolina Department of Heath and Environmental Control (DHEC), as well as the Department of Education, were believed to be associated with the website.

“I’m aware of it. Of course it’s an issue because conduct is very important”.

Subscribers include workers at more than two dozen Obama administration agencies, including the departments of State, Defense, Justice, Energy, Treasury, Transportation and Homeland Security.

For instance, when asked about the four Metro government email addresses that showed up as part of the hack, Communication Director for Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, Chris Poynter wrote, “Using city government email addresses for anything other than official business is strictly prohibited by our policies”.

Despite the negative publicity surrounding the cyber attack, demand for Ashley Madison’s services has been steady since the data breach first announced in July, said Mark Brooks, CEO of Internet dating consultancy Courtland Brooks.

“The criminal, or criminals, involved in this act have appointed themselves as the moral judge, juror, and executioner, seeing fit to impose a personal notion of virtue on all of society”, the statement said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was deeply embarrassed and not authorised by the government to speak to reporters using his name.

For users to check if their email address is included in the uploaded hacked database, websites that they can visit to do so include pages by cynic.al, Trustify, and Have I Been Pwned.
