Race schedule and driver preview for IndyCar’s ABC Supply 500

Of the 400 total race laps in the last two seasons there were 12 laps of yellow in 2013 and only six a year ago. That will come next week in the season finale at Sonoma.

Castroneves has shown no signs of slowing down – he finished second in points each of the past two years – but he turned 40 in May.

Graham Rahal has a lot to live up to heading into the final races of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season. Will we see the same “see no evil” approach be used by officials here?

Pocono Raceway wants the IndyCar series to return.

The unique tri-oval at Pocono will be a test for everyone, including Rahal, but this is a track where current series point leader Juan Pablo Montoya has fared well in the past. Montoya led 45 laps, including the last four. Sixth through 10th are Sebastien Bourdais (379), Marco Andretti (378), Josef Newgarden (370), Tony Kanaan (354) and Simon Pageland (329).

Rahal has already taken the Steak ‘n Shake Honda to a fifth place finish in the Indy 500 before winning the MAVTV 500 at Fontana, and is hoping for another strong result in the final 500-mile race of the this weekend.

Mark Donohue won that inaugural 500-miler and Foyt has been victorious four times, but Montoya’s boss, Roger Penske, has led his team to eight wins here and that may prove an advantage with three Penske cars in Sunday’s top-five chase for the championship. The people you really have to feel bad for in this situation is the many people MWR employed, who will now also have to go looking for new jobs.

“I think I’m really good at setting up the vehicle on the ovals”, Montoya said. “I think we’re capable of doing that”.

“I said when we first announced the partnership that it was our goal to put them in Victory Lane and we have been able to do that two times this season and finish on the podium a series-high six times overall so far. We just have to keep our head on, and I think Montoya is the kind of guy you want on your driver’s team when it comes down to a fight”. “Steak ‘n Shake came on this year, and I don’t know, things just started to click”, Rahal said at Mid-Ohio. He’s won twice and has four other top-fives this season, and history tells us that he’s good at the final two venues: He won at Pocono in 2013 and at Sonoma past year. “Hopefully, we’re going to have a good crowd on Sunday”.

“I’m excited. We’ve got to do something different, we’ve got to take chances if it’s a strategy or a risk out there on the track. Juan has won a championship before, so he knows how it goes”.

“We’ve got to do something, and be aggressive to win the championship”. His time in the sport is slowly running out.

“This (race) there is going to be a lot of pressure as it’s now the second-to-last race coming down for the championship”, he said. “That’s it”, Power said. Rahal won the oval race at Fontana, California, in June….

“All I’m thinking about is winning two races, that’s it”, Power said. But a championship would definitely solidify that recognition. “The aero package is going to be quite different with these body kits, so who knows how the race will actually play out? You can either drive the hell out of the auto and you’ll be OK, or you can’t and you’re going to struggle”. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 adults, $14 seniors, $10 students ages 12-17 and $5 kids ages 6-11.

Sunday, the race is set to get the green flag shortly after 2:30 p.m.
