Assault suspect shot, killed by Tuscaloosa Police Officer
Thursday night, a Tuscaloosa Police Officer fatally shot a suspect during an altercation, Capt. Brad Mason with the Tuscaloosa PD said in a media release.
The scene is at the Chateau Apartments in the 3400 block of East University Boulevard in Alberta City.
Police have not released the name of the suspect or the name and race of the officer. The officer used his taser on the man, but said it wasn’t effective in stopping the fight.
Investigators with the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit who do not work for TPD will investigate the case, which is customary in officer-related shootings. “The altercation ensued, and at this point, the officer drew his firearm, fired and struck the suspect”. The suspect, a 50-year-old white male, died at the scene, according to police.
The police officer was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and received treatment for injuries received during the altercation. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will conduct it’s own investigation into the shooting, independent from the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
