New Giphy Cam App Will Make the Internet A Buzzier Place
“You’re not looking for a GIF so you can watch it over and over for 20 minutes; you’re trying to communicate with someone”, GIPHY COO Adam Leibsohn told Refinery29. You can send these GIFs via iMessage, share them on social media like Twitter or Instagram, save to the Camera Roll, or AirDrop them from your phone to your desktop and embed them in a blog post. The app also lets you add filters, stamps, and other effects to your video, such as the “deal with it” sunglasses. “Now that people can find great GIFs, we want them to be able to create their own moments and share those, too”. As an example, using a super pixelated filter can give a gif a grainy look.
Using the app, you can record in two ways: either by holding the shutter down for a loop, or by tapping the shutter to shoot five burst-mode shots that will then play as a stop-animation-style loop.
The first step in the GIF making process is choosing a filter and there are quite a few incredible options included in the Giphy Cam App, such as surrounded by hearts, cats or the devine sleeping sign Zzz. Unlike Instagram or Vine, Giphy Cam does not have a feed within the app or allow users to friend or follow other users.
Hat-tip to The Verge for pointing out this free tool, but frankly, the gifs they posted just aren’t that good. This is their business model – and it’s worked for them thus far.
