Google investing €150m in Dublin data centre
Google said today that it has started construction on a new 150m data centre at Profile Park in West Dublin.
Google have announced that the company is investing €150 million in a new Irish data centre.
The internet giant also purchased 31 acres of land adjacent to the site which leaves them room for possible further expansion.
400 jobs will be created during the construction phase of the project.
Following announcements by Apple and Facebook earlier this year, Google has become the latest tech company to take advantage of that benefit.
The data centre will be located next to Google’s first building at Profile Park, near Grangecastle West Dublin.
Google’s Ireland office employs over 5,000 people and acts as its headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Ireland’s naturally cool climate makes it an ideal location for data centres.
Ronan Harris, head of operations at Google Ireland, told the Irish newspaper: “We are still very excited about our presence in Ireland and what Ireland has to offer. Google’s data centres around the world help power these services, and ensure that Google searches remain fast and that our services are always secure and available”.
According to Google, the new data centre will rank among the most energy efficient in the world.
