NBC New York: Defending Champion Wins Women’s Hot Dog Eating Competition
Ex- champion Chestnut, nicknamed “Jaws”, is a San Jose, California product ranked the No. 1 Competitive Eater in the most recent worldwide Federation of Competitive Eating. Matt beat Joey Chestnut and all other challengers by eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes!
Chestnut was attempting his 9th consecutive win in the annual competition, but was defeated by Matt “Megatoad” Stonie.
Chestnut smiled in his defeat, said he was slow and could not catch Stonie, according to The Associated Press.
A huge upset at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
“I look up and say, ‘Wait a minute”. Last year, the whole engagement affected me.
A year after winning his first amateur title, Stonie registered with Major League Eating so he could participate in sanctioned competitions around the world, chowing down on everything from shrimp wontons to buffalo chicken wings. This year Sudo deployed the strategy of soaking her dogs in Crystal Light, which was probably not a product placement scheme for the diet drink mix.
Saturday’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2015 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST for the women and 12 p.m. EST for the men.
Philadelphia marks the holiday with a Celebration of Freedom ceremony, a parade through its historic district and a concert and fireworks on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Police dogs, specially trained not to react to grilled meats, were on standby for the event.
