Liverpool ‘reject double Sakho enquiry’
Boss Brendan Rodgers has preferred the partnership of Dejan Lovren and Martel Skrtel in the opening two league fixtures, leading to speculation Sakho could be surplus to requirements.
Liverpool have reportedly rejected offers from Roma and Bayer Leverkusen for Mamadou Sakho, despite the defender’s lack of action so far.
Roma were one of the clubs rumoured to be looking at the Frenchman, although it was reported over the weekend that they had failed with a loan bid for him.
Indeed, if you add in the fact that the 25-year-old sometimes captains the French national team and is, as such, regularly selected ahead of Laurent Koscielny, then it seems all the more bizarre that Rodgers has all but banished him from the first-team picture.
Liverpool paid what, at the time, was around €20M for Sakho in 2013.
Additionally, Rodgers has made a rod for his own back by playing Lovren-Skrtel, and after two clean sheets in a row, the manager has no choice but to stick with the Croatian (which, based purely on merit, is the right decision).
More on this as the offers continue to roll in…
Sources understand the France international is the subject of interest from a number of clubs across Europe, but the Reds appear to be uninterested in selling him.
If they’re willing to tack on a couple of million and Sakho is willing to push for a move, it might even provide a quite solid starting point to getting a deal done.
He may be already, quietly and behind the scenes. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks to close out the transfer window.
