RTÉ News: Dixons Carphone to call new mobile network iD
Andrew Harrison, deputy group chief executive of Dixons Carphone, said: “We are delighted to be working with Sprint and to be a part of a transformation in their business that is already making impressive headway”.
The 11 analysts offering 12 month price targets for Dixons Carphone have a median target of 525.00p, with a high estimate of 550.00p and a low estimate of 340.00p. Best Buy opened its doors in Britain in 2010 – and ignominiously closed them less than three years later, the company dumping its stake in Carphone Warehouse for a £500 million ($775 million) loss.
The company, formed previous year by the merger between electricals retailers Dixons and Carphone Warehouse, said its Connected World Services arm has agreed a deal with Sprint to initially open and manage 20 stores selling phones and tablets across the USA in cities like Chicago and Miami.
Sprint has been on something of a retail kick of late, hoping to improve its position as the third-largest mobile carrier in the United States behind Verizon Wireless, and AT&T Mobility. “Sprint is going to offer customers a greatly enhanced experience in buying wireless products and services”, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said in a statement.
In the initial phase, Dixons Carphone will supply its “mobile phone retail expertise” to Sprint, which will open about 20 stores.
“The launch of iD marks a key milestone and significant investment for Dixons Carphone in Ireland; our Irish operation is leading this strategic project which is an exciting development for our 1,050-strong team here”, says Mark Slater, MD of the company.
The UK’s biggest technology retailer is crossing the Atlantic to provide the know-how for new Sprint stores. Sprint has also launched Direct 2 You, a one-of-a-kind service that brings a personalized sales experience directly to customers whenever and wherever they want for free.
Carphone had two separate relationships with BestBuy, the U.S. retailer. Dixons is the owner of Currys and PC World.
