Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets Live Stream: Watch Online NFL Preseason
The Jets have some serious players on their defense, but they’re not all stars.
The Falcons will probably get a series or two out of Matt Ryan and the first team offense tonight. The Jets have a talented team so will be able to test the Falcons’ rookies. Not to take anything away from the rookie Abdullah, but the Jets defenders simply looked rusty and hesitant in their first game action together.
The score put the Falcons 14-0 up in what was a dominant first quarter display. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around.
With the win the Jets move to 1-1 in the preseason, while the loss drops the Falcons to the same record. The Titans held a 371-323 advantage in yardage but committed three turnovers to one for the Falcons. There is some doubt regarding Antonio Cromartie who has not been looking like the elite cornerback the Jets need him to be.
With Freeman, Coleman and Smith still battling injuries, Terron Ward could get some extended playing time on Friday night.
He also bounced back from bottled-up field position early to lead his sixth TD drive in those three games vs. the Birds. Part of that second quarter onslaught included a 33-yard Chris Ivory touchdown run. Fitzpatrick was 13-for-19 for 118 yards, but he had only four first downs in his first five possessions against the starters and seemed mostly content to settle for check-down passes.
For those of you thinking that the Geno Smith knockout punch offered a silver lining of sorts because it meant Ryan Fitzpatrick would take over, consider this: After a lackluster preseason opener last week in Detroit, the 32-year-old journeyman wasn’t much better in his second start Friday night against the Falcons.
On the other side of the ball the Jets defense will look to redeem themselves by tightening up in the run game.
Finally, with 10 minutes left in the game, something finally broke right for Gang Green: Williams, the first-round pick, quickly sprung on T.J. Yates and sacked the backup QB in the end zone for a safety, reducing the deficit to 14-2.
Some good work from wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who can be a major difference- maker: His best play was catching a short pass from Fitzpatrick and turning it into a 30-yard gain down the sideline. He can write programming code, speak Spanish and solve a Rubik’s Cube in 90 seconds, but can Fitzpatrick solve the Jets’ quarterback conundrum?
