Antonio Cromartie: Getting burned in practice not an issue
For established veterans, training camp is less about proving themselves and more about shaking off the rust and not getting hurt. “We had a couple of good days of practice coming into it. Communication is being developed”. “I’m looking forward to when those lights turn on and you go play football from there”. He said “it’s practice”, but didn’t use that simply dismiss his struggles, rather expanding on the statement by explaining that he’s not covering receivers as he would in games; he is picking on specific components of his technique to work on each day.
Bowles, now his head coach, won’t concede that it has been a struggle to date.
“I am not really anxious about anything that is going on right now”, Cromartie said.
That is a different subject all together, but one thing that is clear is that Antonio Cromartie played at the level he often displayed during his days donning a New York Jets uniform (2010-2014) and prior with the Chargers (2006-2009).
“He’ll be fine.” Cromartie played well for Bowles last season, but he did fade somewhat down the stretch.
“I’ve seen progress”, Bowles said of Wilkerson’s injury.
“Leonard is going to see a lot of blocks this year”, Bowles said. A lot of time is spent by the players in the classroom, trying to mentally grasp the system and prepare for opponents. Initially, a tweak to me means you’re out a day or two and you come back, but obviously it’s been bothering him longer than that. We’ll take his word for it, for now. “But right now, I think guys are starting to get the hang of it and they’re starting to play a little faster”.
“Probably so. I start slow”, Cromartie said. The hamstring injury-it’s always been termed a “tweak” by Wilkerson and the Jets-continues to linger. WR Chris Owusu (concussion) and LB Erin Henderson (MCL sprain) will also sit out…. He won’t be on the sideline Friday night at MetLife Stadium, as Bowles has a policy that no injured players can stand there during preseason games. That will not be the case this week for him or anyone sitting out, including Geno Smith (broken jaw). “We have too many guys right now”, Bowles said. “Everybody is in the way.”…
