Dhawan out of Sri Lanka trip
India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the rest of the Sri Lanka series with a hairline fracture on his right hand. “It was a poor batting performance in the first innings, but we came back”.
Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath took seven wickets as Sri Lanka completed a stunning comeback Saturday to win the first test against India by 63 runs with a day to spare.
In his global career spanning over 15 years, Sangakkara has so far scored 12,350 Test runs with 38 centuries and an average of 57.71. “We won’t change our style of play“. Our mindset will be the same.
“We got no one or nothing to blame but ourselves”, Kohli said. “India have some serious injury issues to deal with at the moment as the other regular opener, Murali Vijay, is also recuperating from a hamstring injury”, says the report. The ball was turning but that is how Test cricket is.
He said – “It was not a question of buckling under pressure”. The endeavour of this team is to play fearless cricket that comes with mind-set. “These boys have enough talent”, he stated. “That’s what I look for in a player”.
On the recalling of Binny as replacement for Dhawan, Shastri said, “With this Indian team, with this kind of bowling attack, an all-rounder is a must”.
We should have been more aggressive in our batting in the second innings at Galle and more positive.
“Rahul and Dhawan duly opened, and the former’s listlessness in both innings guaranteed that Vijay, if fit, could replace Rahul”.
“It is unfortunate because Shikhar is a class act”.
“The courage he showed in the last Test match, because that injury was before he batted in the first innings”. Angelo [Mathews] chose to bat, it started spinning, in our first innings it played nicely and we got a good total. However, there is nothing lacking in team morale despite the defeat and we are looking to make double the effort in this second Test.
Allrounder Stuart Binny has been drafted into the Indian team for its ongoing three-test series in Sri Lanka.
