First Ubuntu phone launched in India
Both the smartphones will be available exclusively via Snapdeal by the end of this month.
After creating the hype, Spanish manufacturer BQ has finally brought in the first Ubuntu series phones into the shores of India. It boasts a MediaTek Quad Core Cortex A7 processor and 1GB RAM for a faster experience.
The Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition features a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display along with a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera, powered by high quality Largan lenses and BSI sensors.
Both the Ubuntu smartphones have dual-SIM support along with dual-standby technology and come in black color option. The Aquaris E4.5 is priced at Rs 11,999, while the Aquaris E5 carries a price tag of Rs 13,499.

Both of these smartphones are actually mid-range handsets, though some might even consider them entry-level offerings based on specs, especially the Aquaris E4.5 which is more of a low-end handset than anything else. Online, we are seeing an increasing demand for differentiated and versatile mobile devices that are feature rich at an affordable price and the Aquaris E4.5 and E5 with Ubuntu OS are great fits for the Indian market. With these two, we have the first Ubuntu powered gadgets in the country – something that fanboys across the country were eagerly looking forward to. The phone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek’s quad core processor with 1GB of RAM.
It has 8GB of inbuilt storage with microSD card expandability (up to 32GB card), the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition also offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G (HSPA+), GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG, and FM radio connectivity options. The 2,150mAh battery is also available here, and the phone measures 133 x 67 x 9mm, and it weighs 123 grams.
The Aquarius E5.5 comes with a HD resolution 5-inch display with 294 ppi pixel density and Dragontrail glass protection. There’s an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.4 aperture, dual LED flash, and 1080p video capture, a 5-megapixel front-facing unit, and 2150 mAh battery. “I am thrilled that our partners BQ and Snapdeal have the drive and foresight to make this happen”.
