Florida: Booze, Gun Range Under One Roof Gets OK in Daytona Beach
That’s because the city commissioners just approved plans for a combination shooting range and restaurant, the latter of which will serve alcohol.
Though the indoor 12-lane gun range and upscale restaurant will be in the same building, there will apparently be a sufficient amount of physical space between the two, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Perkinson said he would post signs warning that guns are not permitted in the dining area, although he and Staudt admitted they wouldn’t know if a person was legally carrying a concealed weapon without a metal detector.
Ron Perkinson and Edward Staudt, the entrepreneurs behind the idea, say they intend to bar people who buy drinks in the restaurant from going to the gun range afterwards. He assures that patrons are only served alcohol after their guns are locked up for the day.
He told commissioners he’ll keep a watch list of customers who may cause trouble and will call police when necessary.
Customers may bring their own guns or rent one, and they don’t have to order food or drinks to be allowed to shoot.
After hearing the proposal, some of the commissioners voiced their opinion on the matter.
And Wednesday night, Perkinson reassured city commissioners with a few safety rules:A computer system will track who has been drinking. In the end, all except one commissioner voted yes for the proposal, reported dbtechno.
“It’s a very unique opportunity”, said Gilliland, whose zone will include the new venture. The commissioners did not demand it, however, after Perkinson said he would put up enough signs to make sure it was abundantly clear that no weapons were allowed in the restaurant. He concluded that similar businesses have “proven in other parts of the country it’s safe”.
