Telltale Games releases a trailer for Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4
Summary: Escape Plan Bravo is a love it or hate it, short and mostly whimsical set-up for TellTale’s upcoming Tales From the Borderlands conclusion. While normally that would be a bad thing for a game, it actually works to TFTB’s favor.
We’re already at part four of a five episode season, with Escape Plan Bravo launching on consoles and PC today. But what would the life of a Vault Hunter be without that constant threat? While the plan comes together quick, leading to another of Tales From the Borderlands’ excellent opening title sequences, the execution leaves much to be desired. It’s a heist movie, complete with the initial planning phase, and of course the revelation that not everything goes according to plan. A tense, stressful examination in all things Handsome Jack makes a tough test for players as Fiona the tour guide. Could things get more intriguing? It’s a well written script that places these points at just the right moments to really stab you wherever you keep your bag of emotions, and no matter what I picked, I always regretted not picking the other one, even though there was really no right answer.
The last episode left Fiona, Rhys, Loader Bot, and the rest of the gang in a particularly unenviable position – at the mercy of Vallory, one of Pandora’s most ruthless gangsters.
“Between blasting into space, traitorous allies, and one of the most madcap action sequences we’ve ever produced, this is perhaps the most exciting episode yet in our collaboration with Gearbox and 2K”, said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games. There are some inspiring sequences that give a great sense of scale, as well as the beauty of the world these characters inhabit. Even so, animations are great, even the facial ones, which proved to be problematic in past Telltale experiences. Another grim moment builds up to a conclusion you will know is coming, but are hoping so badly to be able to resolve.
In regards to that terribly sad character passing, it seems odd to say that the saddest moment in the season thus far set the stage for all of the unbelievable jokes that followed it. Tonal variance is a topic that has been at the forefront of the video game industry conversation as of late, and the fact that a players quickly shift from sadness to glee highlights the incredible writing at the core of Tales from the Borderlands. The humor has been continually hilarious, the storylines and characters have been compelling, and most of all, Tales From the Borderlands has been fun to participate in. This episode is sort of split between two different locales, ending in what could be a pretty significant event for the Borderlands universe as a whole.
