Caitlyn Jenner Could Be Charged After Malibu auto Crash
Jenner was hauling an off-road vehicle on a trailer behind her Cadillac Escalade on February 7 when she steered to avoid cars slowing for a traffic light in front of her on Pacific Coast Highway.
While the 65-year-old Olympic athlete was still living as Bruce, the star was accused of causing a four-car collision in February which resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman named Kim Howe. According to Daniel W. Vomhof, an accident Reconstructionist, she will more likely face a fine or probation or even a smaller charge such as driving too fast for conditions. However, the investigation found enough evidence to support a vehicular manslaughter count, Nishida said. “The totality of the circumstances surrounding the accident will be relevant to the jury’s determination, including factors such as what the traffic was like, whether there was adequate lighting, and whether the road was slippery”. The case will, however, go to district attorney next week to determine if misdemeanor charges are to be levelled against Jenner or if the investigation requires further review, he added. Detective Richard Curry of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said there’s a “50/50” chance that Jenner will be charged, though there is “nothing really egregious” in the case, Variety magazine reported.
Curry told The Times that Steindorff was driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash, and she could face a criminal charge.
Jenner’s attorney, Philip Boesch, told City News Service in July he believes the surveillance video weighs in Jenner’s favor and confirmed that the crash “was simply a tragic accident”.
Another woman, Jessica Steindorff, who was driving the Prius, also filed suit seeking unspecified damages.
But it was through marriage to the former Kris Kardashian that Jenner once again became a household name with the reality TV series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, appearing as the sometimes bemused stepfather of her flamboyant daughters. She’s vowed to use her to celebrity platform to urge acceptance for others who are transgender.
