Buhari Suspends David Paradang, NIS Comptroller — Breaking News
It was learnt that the planned summoning of the officers was part of the investigation ordered by the Federal Government.
In press briefing on Wednesday, a top official at Nigeria’s foreign ministry told journalists that its envoys to Lebanon were looking into how al-Assir, who was travelling with a fake Palestinian passport, got a valid Nigerian visa at the Beirut’s Rafik Hariri global Airport. He has residency and as you know Lebanon for quite some time has granted full residency to Palestinian refugees.
“Without prejudice to the ongoing investigation, it should be noted that Nigerian missions are to serve, they can adjudge an applicant for visa on the basis of documents presented to the Embassy”.
He said these are the major things considered before visa is approved; also to be looked into is whether he used his real name and if he gave a normal passport of his original personality.
The Service said there was no record of application for visa by the ISIS chief.
However, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ogbole Ahmedu-Ode said there was no update on the probe.
According to reports, a radical Muslim Cleric, Ahmad al-Assir was arrested by Lebanese authorities as he attempted to leave Lebanon to Nigeria via Cairo early on August 15. “The president is justifiably furious about it”, the source added.
“The reported arrest of the wanted terrorist is a huge embarrassment to Nigeria and the President has directed that the matter should be investigated”.
All efforts to get NIS to react to the story proved abortive, as calls and text messages put through to Obuah’s phone were ignored.
