Harris County detention officer dies while on duty
Sheriff Hickman says Officer Tronoski Jones, 26, died early on Thursday when the inmate was being moved from a recreation area back to his cell.
Hickman said the jailer fell down during the altercation and died.
Jones on Thursday was helping move an inmate from one part of the jail to another when the prisoner became argumentative and combative. “Although the inmate was combative, we don’t know at any point whether that contributed to his death”.
“We’re still going through the process of collecting evidence”, Hickman said during the press conference. Sources tell Eyewitness News that pepper spray used during the altercation may have played a role in the deputy’s death.
Harris County Sheriff jailer Tronoski Jones, Jones died during a confrontation with a combative inmate while moving the inmate Thursday, August 20, 2015, in Houston. “Today I wish to share my deepest and most sincerest condolences the Jones family; his wife, two children, mother and extensive network of siblings and loved ones”.

An investigation into the incident is underway. He adds that Officer Jones had no outward signs of an injury.
