Surfer pulls swimmers from Lake Michigan rip currents
A video showing the rescue of a 13-year-old girl who was struggling in Lake Michigan Thursday has been released by the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Zeb Boeskool just happened to be surfing on the lake at the time when he saw the two. “To me, they looked like they were in trouble”.
According to officials, Boeskool “was able to pull the girls from the water” with the help of Grand Haven Public Safety.
Boeskool swam through the water until he found one of the swimmers. “She was gasping for air”.
One of the girls reported that she felt like she was being “pulled out”, Hawke said. Her condition had improved to stable by Thursday evening, he told the Grand Haven Tribune (http://bit.ly/1Lo4pXq ).
The 14-year-old rode up the beach in the state park’s quad vehicle.
She was not breathing and had to be revived.
The other girl Jozalin was with was pulled to shore by another bystander and was released from the hospital Thursday.
A red flag was flying at the beach, warning people of risky swimming conditions. The National Weather Service had a beach hazard statement in effect for most of this week, calling attention to the unsafe swimming conditions along the Lake Michigan shore from St. Joseph to Manistee, with waves of 4-7 feet.
