Visualize the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro with new online tool
The base 2016 Camaro is now the 1LT, and it’s $305 less than the 2015 Camaro 1LT. If you just have to have your Camaro with a V8, the “most powerful SS ever” will run you at least $37,295 in the most basic 1SS trim. Announced as Chevy’s retort to the latest Ford Mustang back in May, the Camaro will be offered as a coupe or convertible, and though there’ll be a relatively small number of models and trims, the company is also throwing a fair amount of options into the mix for personalization. However, the 2016 Camaro begins in 1LT trim, while the fifth-gen Camaro began at a more spartan LS trim. Fortunately, those numbers are enough to give us something to compare with the 2015 Camaro and the 2016 Ford Mustang.
Opt for the RS package, and the 2016 Camaro gets fitted with 20-inch aluminum wheels, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with LED signature lamps, LED taillamps, unique grille inserts and a rear spoiler.
Along with the pricing news, Chevy released an online “visualizer” to tease you with the details of your dream 2016 Camaro.
Finally, the range-topping 2SS model gets leather heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, interior spectrum lighting, heated steering wheel, head-up display, Bose premium audio, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert and more. “The only additional features available are Magnetic Ride Control suspension, a power sunroof, in-dash navigation, dual-mode exhaust system and an eight-speed automatic transmission”.
Based on the 2016 Camaro model and trim selected, customers can also select alternate-finish versions of existing features such as smoked taillamp lenses and blacked-out or LED-illuminated Chevrolet bowtie emblems. You can customize your 2016 Camaro by checking the visualizer at this link.
LT models of the Camaro feature the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 275 hp (205 kW), enabling 0-60 performance of under six seconds and over 30 mpg on the highway (this is estimated by GM). It offers more technology and performance than the previous version.
The new mid-level 3.6-liter V-6 may not be turbocharged, but its direct injection and continuously variable valve timing are good for 335 hp and 284 lb-ft, plus it features cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy (its performance and efficiency numbers haven’t been disclosed). All SS models come with a new 455-horsepoewr 6.2-liter V8.
Chevrolet dealers are accepting orders now for the 2016 Camaro, Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran told Edmunds.
