Awesome app turns your iPhone into an 80s VHS camcorder
A new app is only for Geeks that can remember what a VHS tape is and what a camcorder is. It simulates the poor quality of video tapes complete with static, tracking distortion and even low quality audio.
If all your old videos are too embarrassing to post for Throwback Thursday, now you can make some new ones that look vintage.
Authentically obtrusive date and time stamps can even be set to the month and year of your choice, while a “phony zoom lens feature dramatically enhances the cheese factor”.
Once you’re happy with the awfulness of your video, you can pollute all your favorite social media sites with it, tricking your friends into thinking you time-traveled to an era you’re probably glad you missed.
The app lets you shoot in different resolutions and frame rates, to make the video look clear or pixilated.
All the videos you shoot within the app are shareable to other platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Vine, though there’s no vertical video in the app, so videos likely won’t translate well to Vine or Instagram.
Developer Rarevision is charging $3.99 for the opportunity which may be a bit more than some are willing to fork over for a retro camera app. The company is working on a version for Android although there’s no indication of when it’ll arrive.
You can download the app from the App Store here, provided your device is running iOS 8 and higher.
