Planned Parenthood says it has not broken any laws and does not benefit financially from providing fetal tissue for research.
Free speech rights should allow an anti-abortion group to release videos of discussions with a California company that provides fetal tissue for research, even if they were illegally recorded, a judge said Friday.
Gov. Nikki Haley asked the state’s public health agency Tuesday to investigate the clinics’ policies and practices, starting with Planned Parenthood.
The series of videos released over weeks purportedly show Planned Parenthood officials talking about the selling of fetal body parts after abortions. “We are here to say these tactics won’t work in Louisiana”, Planned Parenthood state Director Melissa Flournoy said about defunding attempts.
“The undercover videos expose the potential illegality of Planned Parenthood’s actions, and the grisly, inhuman nature of their business”, added ADF Senior Counsel Michael J. Norton.
“I absolutely do believe that they have violated laws in terms of how they secured these videos”, Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood, told the Washington-based publication, The Hill.
On August 22, members will be in front of Planned Parenthood, 220 Cobb Parkway North, Marietta, Georgia 30062.
31% of them became more opposed to abortion as a result of the videos.
“Jindal isn’t even in Louisiana today, but he’s made sure to prove that he’s always ready to put politics before Louisianan’s health”, the abortion provider said in a statement.
“Our review has found that Planned Parenthood facilities in Pennsylvania do not participate in this practice”, Murphy wrote.
“It is simply false to suggest that withdrawing State or Federal funds from Planned Parenthood would deprive women of critical family planning services”, the ADF letter explains. It is legal for companies to pay for the processing and transportation costs of donating fetal tissue, but the videos purportedly show officials trying to make a larger profit.
Planned Parenthood said on Wednesday it would drop a petition for an emergency injunction against Florida health officials, after the state backed away from what the reproductive health group had called an attempt to redefine gestation periods.
