Chancellor won’t report to Seahawks until contract addressed
As an organisation, the Seahawks have a strict policy of only renegotiating players’ contracts during the deal’s final year and Chancellor still has three years left on his current contract.
“Nothing has changed”, Chancellor’s agent, Alvin Keels, told ESPN on Wednesday.
A report from earlier this month suggested that while Schneider was willing to listen on a potential contract renegotiation, it was unlikely anything would get done that wasn’t “highly favorable” for the Hawks.
Of course, Chancellor is already costing himself about that much for each week he misses camp: The Seahawks are fining Chancellor $30,000 a day for each day that he’s absent, and the team can force him to pay back $250,000 of his signing bonus.
Chancellor, 27, was previously playing under a four-year extension he had signed in 2013. So maybe as the season approaches, the Seahawks will blink first and give Chancellor the money he seeks. The team and I have been in contact, but we haven’t been able to agree on any compromise. Picked as one of the favorites to win the NFC (along with the Green Bay Packers), the roster also might be stronger than it has been the past two seasons. “It’s the ultimate team sport”, Schneider added.
Kam Chancellor has reportedly doubled down on his desire to see his deal re-worked.
These reports about holdouts in the middle of training camp are really ridiculous. While an argument could be made that he is underpaid by NFL standards, he still makes more money than most fans will in their lifetimes.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked after Thursday’s practice about the Chancellor dilemma.
